Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a birth certificate to immigrate from Vietnam to the US?

Yes, USCIS requires proof of birth. If you don't have a birth certificate (common in rural Vietnam), you can use an Affidavit of Birth signed by two witnesses. We provide free bilingual templates.

How long does the I-130 process take for a Vietnamese spouse?

Currently, I-130 processing for immediate relatives (spouses of US citizens) takes approximately 12-18 months. After approval, the case transfers to the National Visa Center and then to the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi for interview.

Can I drive in Vietnam with my US driver's license?

No. A foreign license alone is not legally sufficient to drive in Vietnam. However, you can easily convert your US license to a Vietnamese one in about a week. We provide the application forms and full procedure guide.

What is a visa exemption and who qualifies?

A visa exemption (miễn thị thực) allows foreigners with Vietnamese spouses or of Vietnamese origin to enter Vietnam multiple times over 5 years without a visa. It functions like permanent residence.

How many questions are on the US citizenship test?

There are 100 possible civics questions. During the interview, you'll be asked up to 10 and must answer at least 6 correctly. We offer free flashcards and practice tests with audio in English and Vietnamese.
