US Citizenship Test Preparation

Study for the naturalization civics interview with bilingual English-Vietnamese resources. Audio questions, flashcards, and practice tests — all free.

How the Civics Test Works

During your naturalization interview, a USCIS officer will ask you up to 10 civics questions from a pool of 100. You must answer at least 6 correctly to pass. The questions are asked verbally — the officer reads the question aloud and you answer verbally.

For Vietnamese speakers: If you are 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for 20 or more years, you only need to study 20 of the 100 questions (marked with an asterisk). The test can also be taken in Vietnamese if you qualify under the medical disability exception.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions will I be asked at my interview?

The officer will ask up to 10 questions. You must answer 6 correctly to pass. If you answer 6 correctly before all 10 are asked, the officer may stop early.

Can I take the test in Vietnamese?

The civics test is normally conducted in English. However, if you are 50 or older and have been a permanent resident for 20 years, or 55 or older with 15 years of permanent residence, you may take the civics test in your native language with an interpreter.

What if I fail the civics test?

If you fail, you will be scheduled for a second interview within 60–90 days. You only need to retake the portions you failed. If you fail the second time, your application is denied and you must reapply.

Are the answers always the same?

Most answers are fixed, but some vary by state (e.g., "Who is your state's governor?") or by year (e.g., "Who is the President?"). Our flashcards note which answers vary.
