N-400 Oral Interview Questions — English & Vietnamese

Beyond the civics test, the USCIS officer will ask you questions based on your N-400 (Application for Naturalization) form. These questions cover your personal history, background, and eligibility for citizenship. This guide provides the questions in both English and Vietnamese so you can practice.

About the Interview

The naturalization interview has two parts:

1. English test — Reading and writing a sentence in English (unless you qualify for an exemption)
2. Civics test — Up to 10 questions from the 100 civics questions
3. N-400 review — The officer reviews your application and asks questions about your background

The N-400 questions are not a separate "test" — the officer is verifying the information on your application and checking your eligibility. Answer honestly and consistently with what you wrote on your form.

Common N-400 Interview Questions

Personal Information

• What is your full legal name? / Tên đầy đủ của bạn là gì?
• Have you ever used any other names? / Bạn có từng dùng tên khác không?
• What is your date of birth? / Ngày sinh của bạn là gì?
• Where were you born? / Bạn sinh ra ở đâu?
• What is your current address? / Địa chỉ hiện tại của bạn là gì?

Residence and Travel

• How long have you been a permanent resident? / Bạn đã là thường trú nhân bao lâu?
• Have you traveled outside the US in the last 5 years? / Bạn có đi ra ngoài Mỹ trong 5 năm qua không?

Marital Status

Tips for the Interview

• Bring your green card, passport, and any travel documents
• Review your N-400 application the night before — the officer will ask about what you wrote
• If you do not understand a question, it is okay to ask the officer to repeat or rephrase it
• Answer only what is asked — do not volunteer extra information
• Be honest — inconsistencies between your application and your answers can cause serious problems
